Sapphirestar padded silently among the brush, crouching slightly to hide her head. She could hear the apprentice padding along somewhere behind her. At least she doesn't need to crouch like this to hide in here... the flame-pelted she-cat halted. Her over-sensitive ears had caught a faint sound. A leaf glided lightly onto her nose. She snorted silently and looked up the trunk of a huge oak tree, following the small chirp of... A robin. High, almost at the top most branches, the little bird sang, almost quietly. It fluttered its wings, chirped silently, as if to itself. It was perched on a branch that was too thin for anything to attain it... Besides, Sapphirestar was maybe a powerful climber, but not daft. The robin ruffled its wings, bouncing onto a lower branch. It thingyed its head to one side, and let out another flight of flowing notes. Then it hopped onto another lower branch. The bird did that little sircus again and again, sometimes hopping back up a few branches, to come down again, still singing to itself, almost mockingly now. A twig snapped. The robin fluttered to a higher branch, singing louder, ruffling its feathers, its head never in place. And then...

As quick as she could manage, a black and white paw shot out and caught the robin by the base of it's throat, quickly silencing it's mocking song. It let out a couple panicked squawks before Amberpaw finished it off with a swift bite to the neck. Topaz eyes gleamed down at the brush below the tree, the still robin still in her clenched paw. "That's better," She called, smiling to herself. Sapphirestar had thought she was crazy to climb that high just to get a robin, but the apprentice had assured her mentor that nothing was going to happen. Of coarse, the twig snap was something she hadn't planned...but she had caught the robin all the same.
Once the apprentice was back on the ground, she buried her catch by the base of the tree. Topaz eyes flickered back to the brush again, wondering what her mentor had thought of her display. "Am I going to be tortured with training exercises?," She asked. The sarcasm in her voice was somewhat diminished under the curiosity of how Sapphirestar would respond. She had caught the robin, which was her main focus. The fact that she had nearly fallen out of the tree, however, was something the apprentice really didn't want to dwell on...

The scent of a mouse wafted into Autumnpaw's pink nose, she looked over and stopped quickly. There, through the trees was a plump mouse, nibbling on a walnut. Autumnpaw slunk foward until she was about a tail length away. She leaped into the air, claws unshethed until..thump. The she-cat landed sprawled awkwardly on the ground. "Ow.."[/i] Autumnpaw muttered, the mouse was gone now, she'd messed up and hurt herself. The apprentice snorted with anger and stood up slowly, hoping nobody saw her take a fall.

Amberpaw's topaz gaze flickered over to Autumnpaw, not seeing her fall but wanting her opinion. "Where did you want to hunt?," She asked, her head tilting to the side slightly. It was getting boring staying in one place for this long...the apprentice wanted to get out and streatch her legs, let the wind flow through her pelt. Standing here wasn't getting anything accomplished.
Her head turned in the direction of Sapphirestar, slightly curious and slightly bored. "Or were you thinking about something more specific?," She asked, suddenly remembering that her mentor was the leader of the patrol. The last thing Amberpaw wanted to do was upset Sapphirestar...it may result in a harsh day of battle training...
[just posting to keep things going...I'm kind of waiting on Sapphirestar]
