Flamestar looked up and saw his apprentice Lightpaw enter the den. ''Hello Lightpaw'' he rumbled, ''You okay?'' he asked. Flamestar lowered his head and laid down. Everytime he closed his eyes though he kept imagining badgers raising their big paws ready to swipe at the flame colored cat.

Featherpaw closed her eyes, but she didn't sleep. She kept her ears open to make sure nothing went wrong. She heard Speckledfeather say Silkheart should get her sight back any minute. Then as if cued, a couple minuted passed and her sight came back. See Silkheart. We told you your sight would come back. She said teasingly, but lovingly at the same time. She then saw another cat come in. Featherpaw dipped her head in greeting. Hello Lightpaw. Are you hurt? Or have you just come to see the kits? She said, actually concerned for the apprentince. There was no sense of anger in her voice. Though her words could be taken that way. Not everbody can like her.

"My flank is almost healed. No, I've come to see the kits"Lightpaw smiled to Featherpaw in her own cattish way. The cream-pelted apprentice abstemindedly twisted to lick her yet unhealed wound, a light gash that ran across her flank. Speckledfeather had said that she wouldn't have a scar if she took care of it properly. Which ment not to lick the poultice off.

Silkheart purred and closed her eyes. She wanted to go to sleep. "Try to be quiet. You don't want to wake up the kits or me." Silkheary purred. She laid her head down on Speackledfeather and tried to go to sleep.

Flamestar chuckled quietly, he rested his head and tried to sleep for the last time. Flamestar then drifted off in a estless sleep with dreams of killer badgers and maybe one or two foxes.

Silkheart opened her eyes wide with fear. She picked her head up and looked around. "It was just a dream." Silkheart said to herself. "Well... I'm not going to sleep then." She whispered. Silkheart watched the kits. She knew that going to sleep would just bring more nightmares.

Lightpaw had kept silent as both the leader and the deputy dozed off, and had watched the kits with her full curiosity, observing their markings and features closely. She could almost make out... no, that's impossible.... Lightpaw shook her head to clear her thoughts and looked up at the smell of Silkheart's fear-sent. She relaxed as she heard the deputy's whisper. It must have been a bad dream. A bad dream... just like the badgers..., she thought. Indeed, the menace past, Lightpaw had felt like the badgers, Silkheart's and Brakenpaw's injuries had all been nothing else than a bad dream; yet the fear hidden in Flamestar's eyes and the poultice on her own leg told a different truth. At that, she trotted away.

Silkheart yawned and looked at Lightpaw. She stood up and decided that she would leave Speckledfeather, Speckledfeather's kits, and Flamestar to sleep. Silkheart walked on her three legs over to Lightpaw.

Sighing, Speckledfeather watched the young apprentice and her deputy move out of the den, feeling more alone than ever. Having just been launched off of the cliff of pregnancy, she hit the water of motherhood below her sensitive paws. Sadness creeping into her emerald eyes, she stared at her kits, love prominent there too, but also fear and worry. How could she raise these tiny, new lives well? StarClan had made the rules for a reason, yet she had willingly broken the most sacred one. Would StarClan unjustly blame them? What would the other Clans think of her? There were too many questions, not enough answers, and too much fear. Although her mate was behind her, and her friends around her, the future seemed as unpredictable and ominous as the bleak fog that sometimes surrounded her beloved home. [/sup][/color]
