The young medicine cat silenty slipped out of the gathering, and arrived in her familiar den. She took a deep breath in, and sighed. She could name all of her herbs by smell alone, but she wasn't concerned about that now. She quickly padded over to some cobwebs, and scooped it up with one paw. She hobbled over to her leader, and mewed "Which paw is it?" It felt wrong to be away at a Gathering, but there was no way her leader could appear in front of all the clans like this, could he?

Flamestar limped out after Speckledfeather and collapsed on the floor his pelt accidently brusing hers. He turned his head in embarrasment. "Should I really be missing this gathering" he meowed not knowing he had said this aloud.

"You can't be seen in front of all the clans with a thorn in your pad" she mewed softly. "That would discredit both me and you, I'm sure StarClan will understand" She felt his pelt brush hers, and nosed around his paws, searching for the injured one.

Flamestar lifted his injured paw and drank in her sweet scent feeling a tingling in his stomach though he though it was just his hunger. "Youre right im sure Ivorystone will do well" he meowed.

"She will. She's a great deputy, I can see why you appointed her." She smiled at him, and gently tipped his paw up so she could get a better angle. She grabbed the stick she brought over, and placed it by his head. "I'm going to pull the thorn out, you might want to bite that, it's quite deep."

Flamestar purred and grabbed this stick. "Sure" he mumbled and braced himself for her to take ou the thorn. The stick was disguusting and was choking him. He felt like spitting it out right when he bit it.

Speckledfeather sensed his discomfort, and nimbly grabbed the thorn in her teeth and skillfully pulled it out. It was much longer than she had expected, and she quickly placed the cobwebs on the pad. "It should stop hurting soon" she mewed.

Flamestar winced in the pain and spat out the branch. "Thanks" he purred watching her put the cobwebs on his wound. " Should we go back to the gathering after it stops bleeding" he meowed.

"Yes, then I'll have to take them off, but you shouldn't put too much weight on it while we are traveling back." She smiled at him. "There's not much to do while we wait."

He smiled at her and laid down and licked it wincing at the pain. "Thanks" he repeated. "I hate it when you step on thorns" he continued.

"It is painful!" she admitted. "I remember the first time I had to take out a thorn was from a squealing kit!" she mewed. "He nearly kicked my in the eye!" she laughed a little.

Flamestar laughed imagining the scene then nodded. "It does hurt" he admitted. "Even for leaders " he laughed joking "I guess for medicine cats too" he continued.

Speckledfeather nodded. The miniature she-cat padded around her den, organizing herbs here, moving some there, and pretty much just fiddling around, every few minutes or so checking on Flamestar's paw.

Flamesdtar watched Speckledfeather his eyes following her every step she took. He admired her hard work " how can you do this so fast" he commented as she was arranging the herbs.

"Practise!" she mewed, amused. "Eventually, you learn the smells, and then it gets easy, from living in here, breathing them in." Her dainty paws carried her across the den, her pelt rippling as muscles contracted and stretched. She was truly a beautiful cat, there was no doubt that she would have no trouble finding a mate, if she was looking, and if she wasn't a medicine cat.
